Microsoft Access – database software
A database is any organized collection of information. A telephone book, library card catalog, and address book are just a few examples of a database.
A database is made up of individual records
EXAMPLE: a telephone book record would consist of a person’s information
A Record is made up fields
EXAMPLE: a telephone book record would consist of a several fields such as
§ a person’s first name
§ last name,
§ street address,
§ city,
§ and phone number
Searching a Database
Once entered into the Access software, the user can perform subject or keyword searches
EXAMPLE: You can search a telephone database for anyone who lives on Hundley Drive or in Lake Dallas.
OR perform a search using Boolean operators such as AND, OR, and NOT
EXAMPLE: You can search for anyone whose last name is Johnson AND lives on Hundley Drive.
EXAMPLE: You can search for any Smith OR Jones in the database.
EXAMPLE: You can search for any Smith NOT in Lake Dallas.
