Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet software program with lots of possibilities for classroom use.
Ideas for Using Excel with Younger students
1. Survey your students' favorite insects, flowers, cars, etc... add student data to an Excel spreadsheet and create an Excel chart
2. Have students choose several different animals and graph the number of legs they have
3. Graph the length of various dinosaurs, whales, or other animals of study.
4. Graph class favorites (i.e. color, animal, book, movie, etc...)
5. Graph the weight of pumpkins that children have brought from home
6. Graph different uses for pumpkins
7. Have student record and graph daily temperatures
8. Use the Internet to get temperatures from around the country/world and compare to the weather in our area
9. Have students wokeep a record of their families eating habits and create a chart to represent the different food groups
Ideas for Using Excel with Older students
1. Survey any core area subject and create a graph or chart
2. Have students create an Excel spreadsheet to average their grades for a particular class.
3. Have students create an Excel spreadsheet that converts measuresments (i.e. Celsius to Fahrenhiet, inches to feet, centimeters to kilometers, etc...)
4. Have students use Excel to create a crossword puzzle (see instructions for this in the left hand column)
5. Have students use Excel to create an interactive study guide (see instructions for this in the left hand column)
6. Have students use Excel to create a timeline (see instructions for this in the left hand column)
