Finding Multimedia
Today is: Friday,08 August,2008 01:41:36 PM

You can use the video camera on your school’s multimedia cart to create a video to use on your TTCC web page.  This might be easier than searching the Internet to find an appropriate video clip (note:  LDP does not a have a multimedia cart).

If you prefer to find and save video & audio clips on the Internet - use the following links to help find multimedia (video & audio) files (NOTE:  You are responsible for checking into copyright issues before using any multimedia files on your web pages).  It is up to you to

Sound, Image & Video Files:
· Here is an exhaustive list of multimedia web sites - http://jr.co.il/hotsites/pictures.htm

Sounds Files:
· AltaVista Audio Search Engine - http://www.altavista.com/audio/default

Other Multimedia Resources:
· Pictures of Places - http://picturesofplaces.com/
· American Memory – http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/browse/  (It is the researcher's obligation to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions when publishing or otherwise distributing materials found in the Library's collections. Transmission or reproduction of protected items beyond that allowed by fair use requires the written permission of the copyright owners. Researchers must make their own assessments of rights in light of their intended use.)

The Lycos Multimedia tool seems to get quick results.  If Bess keeps you from using these tools, you might try conducting your search from your home computer.  You can save them and drag them onto your FirstClass desktop.  When you get to school – they’ll still be on your FirstClass desktop and you can save them to your teacher folder.

If it’s okay to use the file:
Right-click the file link or picture
Select Save Picture As – for graphics, clipart, & pictures
OR Save Target As - video and audio clips
OR Save Background As – for background images
Save the file to your teacher folder on the server
· Don’t forget to copy the web link so you can site your sources on your web page or other documents.
o The easiest way to do this is to open a Word document
o Copy the web link (where you found your video, audio, or graphic)
o Paste the link in the Word document & note which file is attributed to the site
o Save the Word document in your teacher folder (name the file Sources Cited)

Copyright and Fair Use Issues - Once you find an audio, video, or graphic – check to see if it’s okay for you to use on your web page.  Look around the web site for information regarding use.  If you don’t find that information, email the web master to ask for permission to use the file.  Here’s a web link with information regarding copyright and Fair Use issues - http://www.ldisd.net/Training/copyright
