Absences & Attendance Information
Submit an Absence
All attendance notes should be uploaded by a parent/guardian in Skyward Family Access.
Your child’s attendance in school is crucial as it ensures they receive a structured education, essential for their intellectual and social development. Additionally, regular attendance fosters a sense of responsibility and routine, helping children build foundational skills for future success.
As a Texas Independent School District, Lake Dallas ISD is required to follow the guidelines set by the Student Accounting Attendance Handbook or SAAH. In a combined effort to be compliant with these regulations set by TEA.
Parents retain the legal right to keep their child home for any reason. In accordance with the SAAH, and District Legal and Local policy, the district can mark this absence as excused if it meets the following criteria:
- Any absence related to illness must have Medical Documentation in the form of an official Doctor's note to be marked as excused
- Partial Day Healthcare Appointment (Student will attend part of the school day)
*Medical Documentation in the form of an official doctor's note is required. - Healthcare Appointment (student will not attend school) *Medical Documentation in the form of an official Doctor’s note is required.
- Emergency in Immediate Family (Please Contact Campus Administrator)
- Funeral of Immediate Family Member *Documentation Required.
- Official Court Appearance Required *Documentation Required.
- College Visit (11th or 12th grade only) *For up to 2 days only to visit an accredited institution. Documentation Required.
- Religious Holy Day *Documentation Required.
- Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) *Excused for one day only for ages 15 and older with Documentation Required.
Children who receive an unexcused absence are only in jeopardy of losing credit if they have missed 10% or more of instructional time.
Communicating to the school why your child is absent without supporting documentation (i.e., keeping them home while sick, but not making a doctor’s visit and receiving a doctor’s note) is an important part of the parent-school relationship. This vital information is taken into consideration for chronic absenteeism and will be used if an attendance committee is called in the event a child has missed 10 or more days of school, which is a required step by the state of Texas.

Compulsory Attendance
Your student is expected to be at school each and every day to comply with the state law for attendance. As their parent or legal guardian, you are required to comply with the law as well. Failure to follow TEA attendance guidelines may result in legal action for the student and/or parent.
