Carlajo Cancilla: Lake Dallas High Teacher of the Year

  • HS TOY logo “If a teacher has ever been a kid-magnet, it is this teacher. She has a heart for every student on this campus in an amazing way. One of the greatest things as a principal is hearing a parent brag on a teacher. I was recently told by a parent, ‘She makes my kid think!  He comes home and talks about current issues. Our family dynamic has changed in a positive way – it’s been a great thing!’ When you can be known as someone who your colleagues love, parents love and kids love then you are definitely hitting on all three cylinders. This year our teacher of the year – the champion who is always in the gap for every child – is Carlajo Cancilla."

About receiving your campus Teacher of the Year . . .

I was so surprised, but grateful that someone noticed that this isn't just a job for me, but a calling. I have always been a teacher of something, and I love my students.
