• 2021-2022 Falcon Band Placement Auditions - Winds Only

When life throws you lemons...the Falcon Band makes lemonade! We will not let our current situation keep us from preparing for the future! We are so glad that the future is going to include YOU!

    Overview

Listed below are the files that you will need to prepare for your upcoming placement audition. The body of work that you provide will be used to evaluate your high school musical readiness and help determine your concert band placement for the 2021-2022 school year. Our goal is to place each individual in a band that will provide them with the most success while maintaining the ability to stretch them musically. Our concert ensembles are ability based and can be catergorized in the following way:

Wind Symphony (Varsity ensemble) - This is our top band. It is comprised of mainly Juniors and Seniors with a few high-achieving Sophomores and Freshman. This group focuses on advanced fundamental techniques and plays advanced to college level literature (Grade 4/5).

Symphonic Band (Non-Varsity ensemble) - This is our second band. It is comprised mainly of Freshman and Sophomores with a few Juniors and Seniors. This group focuses on intermediate fundamental techniques and plays intermediate to advanced intermediate literature (Grade 2/3+).

Concert Band (Sub Non-Varsity ensemble) - This is our third band. It is comprised mainly of Freshman with a few Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors. This group focuses on developing fundamental techniques and plays intermediate level literature (Grade 2).

    Directions

Students will be required to prepare 2 videos that will be uploaded to a Google form. Students may record their videos as many times as necessary to insure that they are providing their best body of work, but may only upload one video per selection. Multiple submissions will not be accepted. Once you have completed the Google form, you should receive a confirmation email indicating that your submission was received. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please speak to a director immediately and be prepared to resubmit. Additional instructions for uploading to the Google form are listed below.

Students will have from Thursday, April 22 to Monday, May 3 (11:59 pm) to submit their videos.

How to provide the best video submission:

All videos should be recorded showing the student from the waist up. This allows us to see hand position, body posture, fingerings, embouchure, etc. Please try to record in a quiet environment, free from distraction and ambient noise (we understand that this may be a bit of a challenge). If you are recording in a room with a fan or ceiling fan, please turn it off while you record. Finally, make sure that your recording device is close enough to allow for a clear recording, but not so close that it causes distortion in your sound. This is necessary to allow us to hear you at your best!

Prepared material shall include (to be recorded in 2 videos):

Video One: Technical Etude - Provided (see link below) - Quarter Note = 150

Video Two: Chromatic Scale - Full Range - Provided (see link below) - Recorded in one video; Tempo - your choice.
