Lake Dallas High School student artwork recognized in congressional contest

The office of U.S. Congressman Michael Burgess has recognized two Lake Dallas High School students’ artwork as part of an annual contest it organizes, showcasing the students’ talents among others in the Denton County area.

Each spring, Rep. Burgess’ office participates in the Congressional Art Competition. Through the competition, students within Rep. Burgess’ district can submit art for consideration in both the national competition and the congressional district. In the 2021 Congressional Art Competition, Falcon sophomore Brendon Buchanan received the Best of School Award for Lake Dallas High School, while senior Allie Strong received a Juror’s Choice Award.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, with hundreds of thousands of students competing since then. Brendon received the Best of School Award for his self-portrait, while Allie received her Juror’s Choice Award for her artwork titled “Neon Swirl.” This was Allie’s second consecutive year to earn a Juror’s Choice Award.
