10 Athletes Ink on National Signing Day
Lake Dallas High Signing Day 2019
Ten LDHS seniors - one Lady Falcon Volleyball player and nine Falcon Football players - signed their National Letters of Intent to continue their education and play at the collegiate level. Family, friends, coaches, teachers and students packed the Lake Dallas High Performance Hall to see highlights, witness the signings and celebrate the accomplishments of these student athletes. Lady Falcon Volleyball
Bailey Avila, daughter of Ray & Kelly Avila, signed with Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas. Her accomplishments as a Lady Falcon include JV & Varsity Team Captain, Honorable Mention All District as a junior and 2nd Team All District as a senior, Academic All District junior & senior year, and team MVP as a senior. She chose FPC because of the “competitiveness, coaching staff and community” and plans to major in Kinesiology.
“Bailey has been a great representive of LD Volleyball, and we are very excited she’s getting an opportunity to further her academic and athletic career at Frank Phillips College,” Coach Jason Roemer, LDHS Volleyball Head Coach said. “She’s going to help that tradition-rich program continue their success and continue to represent her LD family.”
“Our class of 2019 seniors will be greatly missed,” Coach Michael Young, Head Football Coach said. “The number of kids signing this morning, and there could be a few more before this spring is over, shows the quality and depth of this class. I know these young men will represent their family and our football program well at the next level.”
Hayden Brockenbush, son of Dan & Suzanne Brockenbush, signed with Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He received All District honors all three years as a varsity player. In his junior and senior years, he was 1st Team All District and All Area as well as being named Offensive Lineman of the Year (2017) Defensive Lineman of the Year (2018). At SFA, Hayden plans to major in Sports Business and is excited to be a part of the football program.
Nick Cagnetto, son of Harry Cagnetto & Lisa Thelemaque, signed with Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. His accomplishments as a Falcon include 2nd team All District in both 2017 and 2018 and Academic Honorable Mention this year. A LDISD 13-year senior, Nick, plans to major in Actuarial Science, and chose Drake because it was the best fit for him both athletically and academically.
Telanio Evans, son of Fred & Moesha Evans, will continue his education and play football at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany Oklahoma. His awards as a Falcon include 2nd Team and Honorable Mention All-District honors. He wants to pursue a degree in Nursing and chose SNU because it “just felt like home” when he visited the campus.
Zyon Hurd, son of Gretta Griffin-Hurd, signed to play football and study Nursing at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. He played football all 4 years of high school and played varsity ball as a junior and senior. He is choosing SNU because he felt it was the best pick for him after consulting with Falcon coaches.
Brandon Machuca, son of Jesus & Erica Machuca, will continue his education and play football at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. Falcon football accomplishments include 1st Team All District and 2nd Team All Area for 2019. He plans to major in Criminal Justice and chose Tarleton because it was a great academic and football fit – “a winning combination.”
Darren “DL” Roberson II, son of the late Darren Roberson & Amanda Roberson, signed to play football for the Stephen F. Austin University Lumberjacks in Nacogdoches, Texas. A 13-year senior and 4-year letterman for the Falcons, DL was named 2017 Defensive Lineman of the Year and 2018 Linebacker of the Year. He chose SFA because of his planned major in Business Management and because it “felt like home.”
