LDE Hosts Leader in Me Symposium Tour

Leader in Me Site Tour Lake Dallas Elementary hosted over 50 educators on Friday, February 8, as part of the Leader in Me Symposium tour.  Educators from around the country participated in the Symposium last week in Irving, which included a school tour allowing other Leader in Me campuses to get ideas from schools nationwide.

The Leader in Me is an initiative started by “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” creator Stephen Covey. The program aims to create leaders out of students by transforming the school into a student-led environment, focused on each of the 7 habits.

  1. Be proactive
    2. Begin with the end in mind
    3. Put first things first
    4. Think win, win
    5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood
    6. Synergize
    7. Sharpen the saw

After arriving at Lake Dallas Elementary via charter bus, educators were welcomed by Falcons of all ages. Educators entered through the football tunnel with band, drill team and cheerleaders from Lake Dallas High playing and cheering their arrival. Inside, LDE students including the folklorico dance group in full costume greeted them.

Leader in Me Tour Leader in Me students chosen for their excellence in leadership ability were assigned as tour guides for the educators. The tour guides led each group to stations around the campus that highlighted leadership opportunities at LDE. Stations included Celebration Station, Marathon Kids, Campus Garden, Allies, The Nest, Pet Partners, Community Resource Center, Communities in Schools, Morning Mentors, Rather Project, Broadcast News Center and Leadership Notebooks.  After the tours, the educators were able to visit classrooms to see learning in action, Leader in Me style.

School Principal Dr. Jennifer Perry said, “Lake Dallas Elementary was thrilled to be selected to showcase our school as a Leader in Me School for the teachers and administrators attending the 2019 symposium. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to share what they have learned and how they have implemented the seven habits. They did an amazing job and we are extremely proud of them.”

Leader in Me Award After the tour, educators returned to Irving Convention Center for an afternoon session where tour schools were recognized for their efforts. Dr. Perry, Mrs. Angel Buchanan and Mrs. Kristi Webb received the award for LDE along with Robin Becker, the district Franklin Covey Leader in Me Coach and Consultant.
