LAKE DALLAS, Texas — Dr. Tommy Fain, Assistant Director of Bands at Lake Dallas Middle School, conducted his retirement concert last night to a packed gymnasium at LDMS—a performance the 7th and 8th graders made sure was one he soon would not forget, working through the scores with an emphatic punch on each and every note as Dr. Fain waived his baton with accent and delighted poise.
“Repetition is the best medicine,” an edict he delivered throughout the year to the students, culminated in the students delivering a beautiful rendition of “On a Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss,” to a standing ovation by all in attendance.

It marked a fitting end to his long career as a band director in North Texas.
"Dr. Fain has dedicated 34 years of his life to instilling a love and passion for music into his students,” said Randall Caldwell, Principal of LDMS. “If you have ever walked into his classroom you would understand why the students care for him so much. He is welcoming, positive and focused on making every player better. LDMS is thankful for Dr. Fain’s 12 years of service to our students."
The beginner band students opened the show with a concert band rendition of the Game of Thrones theme, setting the tone for a night of celebration and commemoration.
"He delivered great service that comes from the heart,” said LDISD Superintendent Dr. Gayle Stinson. “Tommy brought his heart to his job. He focused on what he could do in his daily work to make students feel special and make their lives a little better."

Following the band’s final song of the performance, LDISD H.S. director Mrs. Denise Kennedy addressed the crowd while issuing her thanks, and handing Dr. Fain a commemorative plaque filled with signatures from throughout the school district.
Students and faculty delivered a surprise reception to thank Dr. Fain for his dedication to the community. Those in attendance enjoyed food and drink while students and their parents were able to deliver gifts and wish their farewells for his retirement.
