Communities in Schools Names Students of the Year

Communities in Schools of North Texas awarded Student of the Year honors to three LDISD students at Lake Dallas Elementary, Lake Dallas Middle and Lake Dallas High School. Students are recognized for their leadership, academic growth and drive to set and attain goals.

Zeilin Arellano Martinez
4th grade

“Zeilin has participated in CIS since she began at Lake Dallas Elementary,” Yadira Galicia, CIS Coordinator at LDE said. “Despite facing several challenges in life, she uses all the resources available to her to continue improving. She participates in all tutoring services available to her, as well as lunch groups that work on character building, and strives to participate in extracurricular activities, such as the Folklorico Club. Zeilin embodies the mission of CIS because of how she has shown empowerment in the outlook of her future.”

Sergio Balderas
8th grade

“Sergio has participated in CIS since 7th grade at LDMS,” Alice Zamora, CIS Coordinator at LDMS said. “When he first joined CIS, he struggled to maintain positive relationships with peers and staff. He would find ways to get out of class and skip school. Due to his struggles, he was invited to join the CIS Lunch with a Leader program, and since then, we have all seen major changes. Sergio is always eager to attend group and around the school he is now recognized at a leader by the school admin, teachers and coaches. We are all very proud of how far he has come and are looking forward to see what high school has in store for him.”

Allen Estrada
12th Grade

“Allen was chosen as Student of the Year for my campus because he exemplifies what it means for a person to be resilient and overcome obstacles and hardships from a life that has been anything but fair,” Amber Case, LDHS CIS Coordinator said. “Allen has continued to stay in school, maintain his grades, and plan his future all while staying positive, kind, and hopeful for a better future. Seeing his desire and determination to pave his own successful path in this world is why he was chosen to be celebrated as Communities In Schools of North Texas Student of the Year at Lake Dallas High School.”

Communities in Schools of North Texas is an integral part of Lake Dallas ISD on all three campuses. Their mission to surround students with a community of support empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
